Peas Pudding Pease pudding is a traditional dish from the North East of England in Tyneside. It can still be bought there in the super markets in the usual plastic tub. It has a little interesting history. Try it if you visit the Northumberland coast. Quite nice. Yellow split peas. Onion Salt and Pepper
Soak the peas over night, rinse and strain the following morning. Boil with the onion until soft be not mushy. About 30mins. Strain and mash to a soft paste. Serve cold with Salad. Peas pudding was traditionally made as a companion to be boiled ham for celebrations such as weddings and funerals. A cheap way of filling up a plate. The peas were tried loosely in a muslin cloth and boiled in the pot along with the ham. This made them a little more tasty for an occasion. |
