Sonny Mc-Crooner

Sonny lived here all his day's
40 plus in misted haze.
A dead ringer for the Rod
A voice of solid soul

In Blackpool he did once win
A place within the legends thing
He saw his name up there in lights
And audiences with delights

His dear mum he could not leave
With out him she would surely greet
Back to a life of singing for the slobs
And people with their low paid jobs

Working hard for a second chance
In pubs and clubs in leather pants!
His hair was pruned and nicely done
His mum, he was her only son

She says there's stardom in his name
For him she wanted 5 * fame

Opportunities they knocked twice
The hecklers they all turned to mice
In arenas, and studios now he plays
And in the juke box they must pay.

The locals now say "He's the man"
And speak of him in golden slang...........
.......Sonny is a livin' dream
His mother now a 5 * keen.

Ruth, what does 5* keen mean?

Hope you don't mind but I've split the poem into 4 line chunks.   I think it makes it easier to read.   As always though, I'll change it back if you want.

I felt the imagery in your untitled poem was much stronger and more evocative.
