STAR SULLIVAN

I recently read “Star Sullivan” by Maeve Binch. The quick read series.

The story is set in Chestnut Street Ireland. It’s about a lovable caring girl called Star. She lived with her family Shey, who was a gambler and her poor mother Molly who had to work extra hours to keep the house. Her oldest brother Kevin did nothing but moan about his job. There was her sister Lilly, she wouldn’t eat properly because she wanted to be a model and then Michael, he was always in trouble.

Star helped everyone she cleaned Kevin’s shoes, helped Lilly her food and lied for Michael so he wouldn’t get into trouble.

Star was in love with her neighbour Laddy. She would watch him every day and night. Star thought if she went out with Kenny, someone she worked with in her supermarket job, to try and make Laddy jealous. But it didn’t work, Laddy only thought Star was a lovely friend.

I enjoyed reading the story “Star” because she was a lovable person, but a bit naive about love and boyfriends. I really liked reading all about the family and how they all developed through their lives. I was also very pleased Oona grew up and hoped she would find real love.

I recommend this book to women as the characters are very realistic. They are just like people I know. The story was told by a young caring woman who liked very practical things and wore practical clothes.

A good read that I could read very easily.

Nothing like a good read but why recommend the book only to women?   Don't men like a good read as well as a wee bit 'luvi-duvi' nonsense?
