Pele The Autobiography

Every person that doesn’t know football knows the name Pele. This book tells a story of a young boy playing football in the streets of a poor Brazil, admiring his father on the football pitch, to him himself becoming one of the most successful football idols of all time.

Through this book Pele gives you an insight not only on his football career but also his life, growing up in the poor part of Brazil as a young boy playing football in the streets in his bare feet kicking a sock around that had been taped up. Coming from a large family with no money this had its difficulties in following his dreams as they could not afford a proper football never mind and a proper kit. Despite all of these difficulties he managed to make his dream come true by becoming a professional at the age of sixteen before going out to be part of a world cup winning team at the age of seventeen.

Through Pele’s career he has had more ups and downs on the football pitch, being part of three world cup team that lifted the trophy as well as going to score over 1250 goals through his career. Things were not always easy away from the football field as he had to overcome being bankrupt due to ill advise through friends taking advantage of his earns, placing them into poor investments. Also his first marriage failed this not being helped by constant traveling through football commitments. Even through this he didn’t let this affect his football on the field.

Pele also shows different sides to him through the book including a more caring side, as he lifted world cup he dedicated this to the children of Brazil as he remember his life as a boy when growing up and the difficulties that he had getting started out. This is also showed later in the book as he was watching kids playing in the street he noticed a boy with talent and helped this boy become a professional him self and is now playing for Real Madrid thanks to the help of Pele.

Pele's passion for football continues to this day as he still promotes football around the world and becoming a sports minister for his country Brazil. For any football fan that reads this book will not only enjoy the book, but will be put in the mood of a game of football themselves.

You mention football fans.   I think most fans these days support their team and do not recognise the quality of a player unless he wears their colours.

Nobody though, could dispute the greatness of Pele.
