Graham’s Car My car was needing an M.O.T. There was some work to do on the Austin Metro, like welding the sills under the floor. I folded back the carpets and started to weld the sill but I missed the plastic cover over one of the supports on the floor. I did not notice the fire in the car when I was welding under the floor. I looked up and saw the fire coming out of the window. So with a scream I threw open the garage doors to find lots of people looking at me from the end of the driveway. So with a bucket of water I put out the fire. Then I went under the car to finish the welding. The plastic roof cover melted on to the seating. The fire also cracked the windscreen. The next morning my mother-in-law wanted a lift to Hamilton. I told her about the fire but she still wanted the lift so I picked her up. She was wearing a white Jacket but when she left the car there was a black mark on her jacket. Then me and my brother Robert went to the scrap yard for a second hand exterior. It was just 20 pounds. We took two hours to fit the interior and the new windscreen. The next day the car went for its M.O.T. and passed. Two years and 43 thousand miles later I sold the Austin Metro for 300 pounds. The Webmaster thought it was quite funny at parts.
Especially the bit about the mother in law. |
