Janet’s memoir published in the People’s Friend and entitled:

A Skylark’s Cry

When we were kids, my brother and I would go for walks with my dad.  He would tell us to stop, listen and then find the birds we heard.

About ten years ago, just before my dad died, we were talking about not having heard the skylark for a long time.  He explained that most of their habitat had gone.

Just after his death I was sitting in the cemetery, having a quiet time with my thoughts, when I heard a skylark way up in the sky. It was magical and really lifted my heart.
