One Day on the Cairngorms
I went to my bed excited on that March evening for I had an early rise the
next morning. I was off to the Cairngorms! I had my stuff put together
from the night before. I had my two cousins to pick up. With some soup in
my flask and some cooked sausage, I said goodbye to my mother and set off.
It was after seven before I picked up my cousins. We travelled
two and a half hours before arriving. AVIEMORE was sunny, warm and busy.
Then we drove six miles to the foot of mughty Ben Macdui. There was plenty
of people there going skiing but we were for the climbing.
So we set of through the winding pathway into the rugged terrain
and the steep incline which is very demanding but worth it.
The views were beautiful.
As we climbed further up and over the rocky landscapes we met other
climbers and chatted to them. It was an exhausting climb and we had to
stop occasionally to rest and have some tea.
When got to the summit the beautiful panoramic views over the tops of the
mountains were spectacular. These are the things that dreams are made of.
Then we were up and off walking again. We came across a loch that was
3,800 feet up on the side of the mountain. There is actually another loch
in the CAIRNGORMS that is higher still and is the highest loch above sea
level in the British isles. Some day I would like to see it.
On the way down we saw more gushing rivers, clouds rolling in over the
mountain tops, woderful views and a lot of snow. We saw two people doing
real face climbing. We also saw a party of eight roped together acending
another part of Ben Macdui.
We took a lot of photographs. Then we had a rest and our tea and soup
before we set off to get back down feeling satisfied and liberated from
the hustle and bustle of city life.
