My Egypt Experience

I went to Egypt in January 2001 with friends, and we all had a wonderful time.  Egypt has so much ancient history and fascinating sights to see.

Included in my trip was a cruise on the Nile on the Princess Eman and then we enjoyed various excursions.    I went to visit the Pyramids and the Valley of the Kings.  There are lots of interesting and educational places to visit.  The tour guides are very knowledgeable.

The weather is warm all the year round.  I spent a lot of time socialising with my friends while in Egypt and I can’t pick one thing that I enjoyed the most because I loved it all.

Egypt

Egypt is a wonderful place.   I would love to go there.   What interests me above all are the tombs in the Valley of the Kings.   Tutankhamen was so young when he died but inside his tomb were wonderful treasures.   He had every thing he needed in the after life - even a boat - jewels and many things more.

The pyramid was started when the boy King was born, but due to his early death it was hastily constructed.   Even so it must have a sight to remember.   The Egyptian people must have breathed a sigh of relief when the job was done.   You see, they took the young men and boys of their villages to construct the pyramid and it was years of back-breaking work.   There were so many people   they constructed a town there, with houses, baths, everything you would need to live.   We know this due to the excavation of the bones of fish and cows there.

It was very warm there.   In the direct heat conditions were terrible.   But they painted their eyes black to reflect the sun.   They wore very little - a white linen cloth round their waist and a head cloth round their heads.   The very rich people wore gold a lot due to the mines which were there . . .

The Nile gave abundances of luscious growing land.   They did not need anybody else, they had a great economy of their own.  Egypt was  a kingdom all of its own.

They had gods - they had many gods - but the most important one was the Sun God.   They looked up in the stars to give them help in their day-to-day lives here. They did not bother about their lives but they lived for the hereafter.   Where their soul goes to was the most important thing to them.

They had incredible knowledge, even though they lived many years ago.   I think they were more intelligent than us. The construction of the tombs was a feat in itself.   We construct tower blocks but they already did this years ago.

Sylvia, you seem to be a bit of an expert on Egypt.

You paint an interesting picture of how it was.
