School Story

When I was at school nobody helped me I could not read or write, the teachers had no time for me. I had to sit in the front seat because I could not read. The rest of the class they all could read. One day I had to read to the class but everybody just laughed at me. I got very angry with the teachers. But the school has changed a lot since then.

I went to the school reunion where I saw a lot of faces that I remember. I spoke to one person that went to school with me. He said he had a good job on a building site; he is married with a little boy. There were other people there that I spoke to. It was a very good night.

I left school at fifteen and started work on the farm. My first thing to do in the morning was milking the cows in the byre, and I fed the cows in the big shed.

Then I went into the field with the tractor. I had to roll the field. Somebody was in the next field harrowing it. The best time of the year is hay time. I worked very hard on the farm.

I’m now working for South Lanarkshire Council. I have been there for four years.

I hope you find your experience of learning with the Community Learning Service a lot better than you did at school.
