On the beginning of May I went to the new Parliament building to see how it works. Jack McConnell was ducking and diving being asked questions about Council Tax and the new banding of houses and renewable energy and there was an education debate. We had lunch and a discussion about the visit to the building and a good time. The weather was kind and nice. The road was busy and congested. I think we need to put more tax on fuel so that we can cut down on traffic. The government should put more public transport on and trains as well. They should make bus fares cheaper and we should have cheaper train fares too. We should also do away with road tax and put it in petrol, cut down the greenhouse gases and cut down on fossil fuel. We should use more wind power, solar power and wave power and stop using coal. There will be more nuclear power as well when they find out how to make sure it is safe and the disposal of waste safe because we are running out of fossil fuels. We should use solar panels on the roofs of new houses and stop going abroad on planes, but use boats instead, but better still stay in this country. Reg Mitchell, 24/05/05 Hamilton Learner I went to the Scottish Parliament. I found it interesting. I liked the Cliff Richard screen saver on MSP Karen Gillon’s computer. First Minister’s Question Time with Jack McConnell was good to see but a bit boring at the same time. It was quite good that we got to have a look around the Debating Chamber and sit in the MSPs’ chairs. The shop was good but some things were expensive. I bought a glass tumbler and it cost over £3.00! I also bought a fridge magnet. It was nice to see although I didn’t like the outside of the building. I would recommend that other people visit. It doesn’t look like £400 million was spent on it. Anne Fraser, 02/06/05 East Kilbride learner I went to the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh. It was good. I liked the Debating Chamber. I liked the MSPs’ offices too. I saw poems on the side of the building. It was a good day out. John McCusker 07/06/2005 Hamilton Learner |
