BAFTA awards-film review: The Reader"

You might have noticed Kate Winslet picking up BAFTA (s) for her role in the film The Reader.

Kate plays  an ex-concentration camp guard from 1940s Germany; it turns out that she is unable to read and write, and that in joining the Waffen SS, she gets a job which does not reveal the fact that she is unable to read or write.

Without spoiling your pleasure if you have not yet seen this film, may I just comment on the fact that all her shame and embarrassment centres on her inability to read and write-not on the fact that she has sent so many holocaust prisoners to their deaths.  Harrowing stuff.

Thanks for that David.  I look forward to seeing the film.   By the way, did it come out n book form or was it straight to film?
