My Story

My name is Christine McCafferty, and my story begins from the 29th of August 2007 at the community links building above the library in Blantyre. I went there to do an adult learning class, to develop better writing and reading skills so I could help my son with his school work. I have been with my class now for two years, but during that time my writing has improved a great deal, also my son has started reading more than I am now since he has seen me reading in the Six Book Challenge.

I have done the challenge twice now, the first one went very well, but the second time it took me a while to get into it because I had family problems, but I did it in the end.

I found it hard to practice my joined up writing at home, but not anymore as I am getting better at it.
I had support from Lindsay and my gran during my time at my class and at home.
The proudest moment I had was in my first year when I got a certificate for learner of the year. I felt great because my son was very pleased.

About a year ago I took part in writing limericks for a booklet, but since then the booklet has been published, which gave me a great sense of achievement. Also I have put articles on the internet, which has been published on the South Lanarkshire Learners' website.
I have also made friends in the class which has helped me make friends outside of the class as well, and has helped me make more conversation with people too.

I would like to further develop my writing and reading skills, because that would benefit me and my son in the future.

I enjoyed reading how much you have achieved.  This is a great inspiration for others.

Well done.

Thank you for that Christine.
