                            Back to my roots

As a child in the 80s my existence seemed care and trouble free.  Looking back I never had a care in the world.  Life was simple and pleasant.  Long hot summer days would bring all the weans in the street together.   We would sneak into my neighbour’s garden and pinch sticks of rhubarb, then beg our parents for a poke of sugar.  We often had to share the sugar between two or three or even four children.  We would dunk the rhubarb in the sugar then eat it.   Nowadays kids have had the social services out to them for less.

I remember the taste of rhubarb and sugar well.
