One of the Funniest Moments of My Life

When we were all younger we used to play cricket, rounders or football in the swing park.   There was a sign that said ‘No Ball Games’ but we just ignored it.

One day we were playing football in the park.  I was goalie for Martin, Craig, Jackie, George, Alison and Jim, and on the other side were Andy, Sarah, David, Alistair, Margaret, Gary and Grace.  When it got to the end of the game Martin kicked the ball so hard towards the other goal that it hit the top of the swing and bounced off the top. When it went flying across the park it hit the electric pole, one of the ones with the eggs on it, knocked the box, and sparks went flying.   That was the end of the game and we all went in to get tea.

But by the time we got in, the whole row was in darkness.  My mum phoned Scottish Power and they said it could be between 2 to 3 hours before the power would be back on.  The Scottish Power men had to replace the box and put up new eggs, but they never found out who did it.

After that we all had to play football, rounders or cricket in the fields.

Thanks Aileen,

What park is it you played in?  I reckon it's been bulldozed for houses.

A good story and and a nice bit of social history for future generations.
