The Haunted House When I was taking out my dog for a walk, it was a bright warm day and the sun was splitting the trees. I let my dog off the lead and I walked along the path. It was a strange atmosphere. I was shouting my dog to come back as I did not see her. In the distance I saw an old, tumble-down house. The windows were broken and the curtains were blowing outside the window. I got near to the house and started shouting on my dog to come back. Still no sign of her. When I went into the house, there was a musty, stale smell of dampness, and there were damp patches on the wall. It was so quiet. You could hear a pin drop. I started shouting for my dog and then I heard a scratching on the floor of rodents. My hair stood up at the back of my neck. I shouted again for my dog, Bess. The barking got closer and closer. It was close by. I heard the bark and in the darkness nearly fell into a hole right in front of me. There was a horrible smell of decay coming from the hole. I managed to drag my dog up from the hole . She was stinking from the slime that stuck to her coat. As I started walking across the room, a small rodent – a little mouse - or was it a rat? - scurried across the room. I nearly hit the roof. My dog gave a big growl and it ran away. When we got home, the first thing I did was put my dog into the bath. We had some adventure today! Sandra-Anne - Lanark |

OK Sandra-Anne, I don't know if this is true or whether you just made it up.
Either way, it's well well written and has quite a bit of atmosphere.
Lanark is full of lovely walks and derelict cottages, so it could be true. What do the readers think? Contact us and tell us. |
