Takes me back Janet even though Bill Haley was before my time.

Wasn't he the person that invented rock 'n roll or was that Chuck Berry or Bo Diddley.

Look forward to seeing Chapter II.

1950 To The Present Day    Chapter 1

In 1950 I was born and  I think it was the start of the British people getting on in the world. When I look back you can see things getting better. I went from a wee house in Burnbank with no toilet or bathroom, to a new and modern housing scheme in Hillhouse with a toilet and bath, upstairs and downstairs and back and front garden.

The Queen was crowned and I was three at the time. We all got chocolate in a tin with the head of the Queen on it.

When I was five and went to school in Burnbank it was an old building.

I remember our first record player and TV.  Before that we had a radio and old record player. Before the Forth Road Bridge was opened, we went to Fife over the Kincardine Bridge. I remember my dad would go for walks with a gun or fishing rod and bring back something for the pot – a rabbit, a pigeon or some mushrooms. It was not long after the war and we were still short of food and sweets.

The music of the day was Scottish like the Alexander Brothers and Andy Stewart. Then came Bill Haley and the Comets and Rock and Roll. It was the start of the best time in music.

I remember Manuel, the murderer.   It was a bit frightening; I was so frightened I would not go for a walk with my family in the country side.
