The Partner by John Grisham
This book was the most enjoyable one I have
read so far.
I like how the character Patrick Lanigan takes 90 million dollars from his
old partners in the law firm where he used to work because they were
embezzling from the government.
His marrage was failing and he knew his daughter was not his own. So he
faked his own death by taking the dead body of an old man he befriended
who died of natural causes and put him in his car and set it alit, so
everyone thought it was him.
Patrick also had a lady friend called Leah whose real name was Eva. Both
never really spent any time with each other because both are on the run.
Four years later Patrick gets found by people hired by his ex-partners.
What the partners did not know was that the people they hired tortured
Patrick. Because they wanted to know where the money was, but Patrick did
not know where it was, only Leah knew were the money was.
Later in the story Patrick was handed over to the F.B.I. in which he was
sent to a hospital because of the burns he got when he was tortured. He
was also sued by his ex-partners for taking the money.
In the time he was in hospital he had a lawyer who was his go between him,
Leah and his ex-partners.
In the story we find out Patrick and Leah were a little more than friends.
Also, with the help of Leah and the information Patrick had against his
ex-partners, his lawyer managed to get his partners to drop the law suits
against Patrick. But the F.B.I. found out about the embezzelment and they
were arrested.
Patrick had another problem. The F.B.I. thought he killed a young teenage
boy and that he was the one that was in Patrick's car, so he was charged
with his murder.
But Patrick told how the boy went to him for help, so he explained how he
had got the boy a new passport and identity and the boy was living
somewhere else. So the F.B.I. had to let him go, but he had to pay back
the money he took with interest which meant he had millions left over.
At the end of the story Patrick and Leah were meant to meet up, to talk
about what was happening with the left over money.
Patrick waited for days, he realized she disappeared with the money, but
he still loves her and hopes she will find him one day.
I would recommend this book to anyone who like thrillers and crime stories
as it was really enjoyable and kept you wondering what was going to happen
next. |
