The Garden Party.
Elizabeth and I had been invited by Her Royal Highness to attend her
Garden party in the grounds of Holyrood Palace on the afternoon of Tuesday
1st July, and together with another couple from our church in Hillhouse,
we made our way by car to Edinburgh. Many other were doing likewise. It
took us two and a half hours to get to our destination.
We were in time however, to park and join the other guests just as Her
Majesty, accompanied by Prince Philip and Princess Anne made her
entrance. She was escorted in the usual way by members of Her Royal
Archers Company in their full regalia, with their cockaded insignia, each
holding the traditional six-foot longbow. There was a lady standing
directly in front of me wearing a long ostrich feather in her hat that
kept tickling my nose. The two young ladies standing right behind me
thought this was quite hilariously funny.
When one of the archer escorts guarding Her Majesty stood next to me, I
noticed that although he had his official longbow, he didn’t have any
arrows. I jokingly enquired where he kept his arrows, and he whispered
that he only had one for show.
Altogether it was a memorable occasion, which my wife and I really
enjoyed. George, Salvation Army Group
