1.  International Adult Learners' Week Celebration and International Literacy Day Celebration on Wednesday 9th September at Burnbank Family Centre-

Twenty adult learners' enjoyed a morning of Health and Wellbeing hosted by the Community Learning Service.  There was an informative talk about the Scots and English language laced with funny scenes acted out by David McDonald and Robert Bell.  This was followed by light refreshments of fruit salad and creamy fruity drinks organised by Asha Mallik and supported by Dorothy Thomson., Liz Jeffcott and Wendy Coull.  Asha introduced the idea of a  Cosmopolitan Group where all learners can come together and share their language, concerns, food and ideas.  Fiona Kay then finished off the day with two lovely song.  Everyone enjoyed the celebration

 

 

2. First Aid Courses at Larkhall and Stonehouse. 

A number of adult learners completed First Aid, Baby and Child First Aid and Anaphylaxis Awareness Course in the local community.   These courses have proven to be very successful with adults keen to learn first aid skill towards helping their families and friends.  The courses took place in Robert Smillie Primary School and the Institute in Stonehouse. 

 

 

3. Scottish Learning Partnership

The conference was organised by Scotland’s Learning Partnership on the 11th September at Strathclyde University.  Edicio de la Torre, President of Education for Life gave a lecture on Making Your Learning Greater Than Your Experience.

An appreciative audience listened attentively to an inspirational speech by  Mr de la Torre.  He explained how his courses were designed to promote:  ‘a shift from the politics of resistance to the politics of participation’.
