Letter to Learners Forum Meeting
My son has been attending classes with the Big Plus team [Community Learning Service]. He is benefiting greatly from the dedicated work of the team. I feel that a Learner's Forum would be of great benefit to learners as it would give a voice to people who require extra support with learning. My son has struggled with learning throughout his school years and without this extra chance to learn he would indeed be lost.
The forum would enable people to meet as a group and collectively they could perhaps improve or apply for materials/ better accommodation/ and greater number of staff which would result in perhaps increased number of sessions available. Everyone has the right to learn and not everyone is able, for what ever reason, to learn at designated times in their lives. It is therefore important to allow people of all ages to have access to learning when required.
Yours sincerely

Examples of people's thoughts from a Committee Skills course in Carluke, October 2004
1. The two sessions were informative. I think they will help the group, as we are now realising, that although we may all have differing opinions, we can make our group stronger if we all work together as a team. Other training that would be beneficial, would be more I.T. skills, also basic bookkeeping to help us keep tabs of any funds we may raise.
2. I found it helpful, very interesting, full of information. A friendly, down to earth atmosphere made everyone relaxed. I enjoyed this and it has made us a group determined to succeed with our own group.
What Willie said during an Literacy and Numeracy class in Thankerton
This is the best thing I've ever done, and I'm 54 years old. There are times you think your getting nowhere but most of the time it's really good.
