Easter
Easter is preceded by lent, which is a period of 40 days. During these 40 days, people give up something they like such as alcohol, sweets or tobacco. It starts on Ash Wednesday when some churches put ash on the foreheads of their congregation as a symbol of penance (being sorry for all the bad things you’ve done and punishing yourself). The Collins Dictionary states that Easter commemorates the death & resurrection of Jesus. The name Easter comes from Canaanite Mythology by and is derived from the goddess of spring and the dawn.
The date for Easter is governed by the lunar Calendar, now it is briefly the first Sunday after the full moon following the vernal equinox falling between the 22nd March and 25th April.
Easter. Ishtar or Astarte is known all over the world by many names. Queen Semirimes Star of the Sea, Queen Of Heaven. In Egypt it is - Isis, Greece as - Venus, Ceres, Diana, Artimis, Rome as - Aphrodite or Fortuna, Sicily as - Isa.
In India it is - Minachi and in some parts of Asia it is known as Cybele.
In Tibet China Japan it is known as Shigmoo, Shakti, Juno Beilona, Hecate Rhumnubi Ashera Anai and Anath
Jesus was crucified on Good Friday and rose from the dead on Easter Sunday morning. Easter eggs represent the stone that was rolled away from the rock-cave tomb where Jesus was placed after his death.
Older persons will remember in their earlier days, that this was the time when people traditionally wore their brand new clothes. They would go to church, have a family meal then go to a park nearby and roll their painted boiled eggs down a hill. Nowadays, we buy chocolate eggs and many go to Spain for Easter to the sun.
