I would like to tell you about a special tradition which is carried out on Songkran Day in Thailand.  This is a celebration of the Lunar New Year.  Buddha images are bathed, monks and elders receive the respect of Gounger Thais by sprinkling of water over their hands, and a lot of water is generously tossed about for fun.  This is for a clean start to the New Year.  It’s usually takes place from 13th to 15th April.

Songkran generally gives everyone a chance to release their frustrations and literally cool off during the peak of the hot season.  It is good fun.

We cook a very special pudding which is only made for Songkran day.  We also cook a lot of other food.

We take this food to the temple for the monks and our relatives and neighbours. We make a ‘Stupa’ from sand on the temple floor and decorate it with special flowers to make it look beautiful, after that we play with water and have a special parade through our village.  Everybody is very wet and happy.  We laugh a lot and enjoy ourselves.

Could you provide us with the recipe of the special pudding?
